“It’s probably a phase.”
When I told my Nigerian father at 16 that I liked girls, his response was surprisingly calm: “Nne, it’s probably a phase.” Fast forward to parenting my own child, suspecting they were gay at 2, and worrying about how the world would react. It was a journey of self-discovery, especially when my kiddo helped start the Gender-Sexuality Alliance in high school and later introduced me to the term non-Binary at their Stanford graduation.
